Allt Dearg Cottage is a typical 2-up 2-down stone cottage situated just a few hundred meters from the Sligachan Hotel in the middle of the island.

It lies in an extremely picturesque setting, with the Slighachan river on one side and the Cuillin mountains beyond. Being so accessible, it is another of Skye’s honeypot locations.

I’d planned the shot for a full moon behind the Cuillin to reflect off the river. It took ages for there to be a clear enough night. For this outing, I scouted the area in the daylight then retired to the hotel bar to wait for darkness.

All that was left was to illuminate the cottage, which I did with my drone and a small light held onto it with elastic bands.
